Biography

Jeannie Benz, is a Divorce Coach / Legal Assistant at HLG. With a remarkable story of resilience, reinvention, and heart, Jeannie is a vital member of our team. Guided by the firm’s motto “Divorce Done Differently,” Jeannie brings a wealth of life experience and empathy to her work, helping clients navigate the emotional complexities of relationships with grace and understanding.

A wife and mother of three nearly grown children, Jeannie’s own 38-year relationship (including 30 years of marriage) to her high school sweetheart has been a tapestry of highs and lows—woven with moments of incredible gain and loss, births and deaths, sicknesses, addictions, recoveries, and rebirths. Together, they’ve weathered life’s many phases, and Jeannie has been the steadfast supporter and encourager behind her husband’s rise to the top of his field. Her deep understanding of partnership, forged through decades of shared triumphs and challenges, informs her compassionate approach to coaching.

Jeannie’s professional journey is as dynamic as her personal one. After earning her law degree from Indiana University (McKinney) School of Law in Indianapolis and passing the California bar exam in 2001, she embarked on a career in Hollywood that blended creativity and strategy, working in the legal field of intellectual property as a marketing and licensing consultant for historic, notable, and celebrity figures. She later transitioned into the high-stakes world of pharmaceuticals, serving as a sales representative in the neuropsychiatric division of a major pharmaceutical company, collaborating with psychiatrists to the stars in Beverly Hills. Eventually, Jeannie chose to step away from the workforce to focus on raising her family, a decision that allowed her to hone her skills as a coach, teacher, supporter, and guide.

A fitness and health enthusiast, Jeannie thrives on staying active, regularly working out with weights, Pilates, and barre. She began her newest fitness endeavor, equestrianism, just three years ago. Knowing nothing about horses, she’s taken on the daunting yet exhilarating challenge of horsemanship—learning to ride and handle her beloved chestnut gelding. For Jeannie, overcoming her fears to achieve connection and balance with such a powerful and sensitive animal mirrors her pursuit of harmony in her human relationships, both personal and professional. This newfound skill inspires her to guide her clients toward similar breakthroughs in their own lives.

Deeply rooted in faith, Jeannie also serves as a Christian minister, offering comfort and encouragement to the elderly and infirm. She has delivered heartfelt sermons at nursing homes and funerals, sharing messages of hope and resilience. In her spare time, Jeannie cherishes moments with her family—her husband, three children, parents, brother, and adored sisters-in-law, with whom she loves planning girls’ getaways.

At home, she dotes on her lively crew of pets: two Dalmatians, a golden retriever, two cats, a bunny, and her chestnut gelding. Proud of tackling something entirely new in midlife, Jeannie sees her journey with horses as a testament to the power of stepping beyond fear—a lesson she brings to her clients every day. Now, with her children nearly grown, Jeannie has found her true calling as a Divorce & Relationship Coach at our firm. Drawing on her legal expertise, diverse career background, spiritual grounding, and decades of lived wisdom, she empowers clients to approach divorce and relationship transitions with clarity and compassion. For Jeannie, every ending is an opportunity for a new beginning—a philosophy she lives, teaches, and shares with those she serves.
